The King and Queen of the Belgians Visit
March 2018
Sunday, March 11, 2018 to Sunday, March 18, 2018

I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the King and Queen of the Belgians. It was truly an honour. They were in Canada with a Trade Delegation from Belgium and Brouwerij de Halve Maan invited me to participate with them.

We partied with their Majesties at a Black Tie event, did business with them at our contract signing and chatted with the Queen at a chocolate festival. I was also honoured to meet the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Pieter de Crem, at our launch party in Ottawa for the first bottle de Halve Maan Quadruple to be opened in Ontario.

Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal in 3 days was a whirlwind but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Thank you Zavier and Steve for the invitation.

Lambics from the Oldest Lambic Brewery in Belgium

Timmermans Brewery, the oldest Lambic brewery in Belgium and winner of the Worlds Best Sour Beer medal, has released it's exceptional Flanders Bruin, Bourgogne des Flandres, in 20L OW kegs (SKU 48520).  We were able to secure a very limited amount and are expecting it in our warehouse very soon.

Bourgogne des Flandres is the real taste of Bruges. The mixed fermentation is what makes this beer so special. A top-fermented brown ale is subtly blended with the best spontaneously fermented lambic, which is then matured in oak barrels for many months. It is this process that gives the red-brown beer a rich, creamy finish.

Also available at private beers stores in 330ml bottles (SKU 468447).

Already available at private beer stores from Timmermans:

SKU 40956 Timmermans Strawberry Lambicus.  Not too sweet with a nice, lambic tang on the end

SKU 679738 Timmermans Lambicus Blanche.  Nice, easy drinking Lambic Wheat beer.  First of it's kind and an easy introduction to Lambic Beer.

Straffe Hendrik Wild 2016
Our Allotment is here!

We have in stock our allotment of Straffe Hendrik Wild (sku 872333) from de Halve Maan Brewery, the Bruges brewery who are building a pipeline under the streets of Bruges to get their products to their thirsty customers throughout the city.

Straffe Hendrik Wild is a “wild” version of the famous Straffe Hendrik Tripel. The traditional triple beer is re-fermented with a wild “Brettanomyces” yeast, that creates unusual fruity aromas in harmony with the rich use of aromatic hop varieties. The wild yeasts also provide a longer natural shelf life to the beer and taste developing over the years.

The beer needs a longer maturing period in the bottle before it can be released and therefore matures in the bottle for 3 months in the cellars of the brewery. The re-fermentation with wild yeast is only complete after 3 months and the young beer is palatable. The beer will continue developing in the subsequent years. The bitter hop aromas will become softer, whereas the wild Brettanomyces yeasts will continue working and creating hints of fruit, flowers and wine.

Straffe Hendrik Wild is only bottled once a year and is released in April. The beer combines the rich tradition of this Bruges triple beer with the innovating work with wild Brettanomyces. The result is a unique beer appreciated by beer lovers worldwide.

Gulden Draak wins Gold (again)
Brussels Beer Challenge, November 1-3, 2013

We are very proud to announce that after the Gold medal at the World Beer Challenge 2013, Gulden Draak has been awarded with another Gold medal in the Brussels Beer Challenge 2013. This international beer tasting competition was held in Liège.

The Brussels Beer Challenge was launched in 2012 to promote the beer industry in a market that is not only a benchmark for beer but also home to connoisseurs. The event was backed by WBT – Wallonia-Brussels Tourism – and was this year part of the 2012-2013 Wallonia Taste the Difference promotion program. The Challenge finally brought to Belgium a prominent international competition. Although there are already acclaimed competitions elsewhere, it was only fitting that Belgium should offer brewers across the globe a representative, yet independent trade venue to compete against one another.
